How to get a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce founded the Hollywood Walk of Fame, HWOF (Hollywood Walk of Fame) in 1960. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It's made up of 2,711 stars, which are embedded in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. The HWOF currently has 1,922 listed living people.
To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is affixed to a concrete base in front of the designated star.
You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision.
